    Hi All,
Doing my first feature and just wondered if anyone could give me a rough ballpark figure on how much storage space I might need. I realise this is extremely variable due to a number of factors, but I’ll try and nail down a few and then just a rough idea would be fine:

    Film length: 85 minutes
Shooting ratio: Probably around 8 to 1
    Shooting Format: HDCam
    Editing format: DVCam

    I’ve got Avid MC,
    thanks,
    Paul

Very much depending on the amount of footage they will shoot. As a ballpark, take in account 50-60 mins of footage per shooting day. Then check the Estimated Storage Requirements section of the Help pages, find the video resolution you plan to use, and calculate the amount of storage you need. In 14:1p, you won’t need as much space as you’ll need at DV25 or 3:1p.

    Thanks guys, really helpful.

Just another quick question on this: when I did a test importing at 10:1, 15:1 and 20:1 with DV (not DVCam) I found that the audio had dropped out of sync. Is this normal with DV and would this not happen with DVCam (which I believe has a picture-audio lock)?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Nope, something else is wrong.
There really isn’t that much difference between DV and DVcam.

Check how much it goes out of sync, and if the problem increases with higher TC numbers, etc.
If you can find a pattern in the offset, it’s easy to find out what goes wrong where. (eg shooting 24 vs 23.976 is always fun…)

What is the project type? What is the frame rate of what you are trying to capture? As mentioned, it could be the .1% drift if working 23.976/24.

It’s 25 FPS. Didn’t know about this frame drift issue. How do you correct it?

    thanks,
    Paul

Are you trying to work in a 24p PAL project or 25p or 25i? The 25fps stuff should stay in sync.
