    Hello to all!

I’m continually having a FCP crash – while trying to do something. I have key framed several clips to travel across the screen, rotate, and get larger in scale. A side effect of course, is if you rotate the clip at all, you end up with ” jagged sawtoothed edges” on that particular clip. I’ve heard to correct this, you crop and or feather the edge about 5 to 10 units… and this will get rid of the jagged effect.

Problem is, after I go into to the motion tab and set this up, when the rendering takes place….it will render nearly all the way … then the beautiful beach ball starts spinning and will not stop! And I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I then have to force quit.

I have Final Cut Pro V5.0.4
2g of ram on a Power Mac Duel 1 ghz G4…with over a 100g of extra space.

I’m trying to finish a project that has grown to one hour and 52 min – with a lot of motion effects. Everything has rendered, but I can’t seem to get rid of these jagged edges. Can’t seem to find any info anywhere else in the PDF file manual about this – unless I am overlooking it. I’m trying to finish this project before the 27th of November… and I’m stuck.

Thanks to all for any input!

    Hi Jonny,
I really don’t know what can be making the ball spin, but the problem of the jagged edges can be related with the “rotate’ that you are applying.
FC have three levels of quality when rendering “Motion effects” (any thing that you change in the Motion tab): Linear, Normal and Best (in Sequence Setting> Motion Render).
The problem is that with “Rotation” FC can only work in Linear (the lower quality setting) and this do not affect only to the rotation. If you use rotation all the other Motion effects are rendered in Linear too.
The solution is to use the Basic 3D filter of FC (Perspective) or, even better, the “Andy’s Better 3D” this you can download it free from Internet.
I don’t know the kind of footage you are working with and the setting of your sequence. If you are working in DV this can be other source of “jagging”.

If you can afford to, I’d try and trash all your render files and see if that fixes it.
