Check out this video as Steve Jobs introduces iMovie ’08. As we know, this product was the genesis of FCX. Be sure to listen to what Steve says at 5:47 “…why are we obsoleting our own products?” As Jobs said at his intro of iMovie ’08 “…we really care about the stuff and we think it’s so cool.”

Just as iMovie ’08 abruptly wiped its predecessor off the map, FCX has wiped its worthy predecessor off the map….because it’s “cool.” Is it functional?

Great find! So prophetic. Close your eyes and he’s describing FCPX.

“Why are you obsoleting your own products?” What a quote!

There is a theory that business should obsolete their products before the competition can. You want to come out with the improvements first. Don’t wait until you are forced to bring to market something that may not be ready.

Of course if you are going to obsolete a product that is a standard of an industry, you should make the new product better than the old product.

    Best,
    Park

Here’s an interesting article on the origins and reasoning behind iMove 08, which was originally called First Cut and was going to be a complimentary app to FCP.

His engineer might not have been able to cut it in a couple of hours but thousands of seasoned editors could! Apple is slapping the face of every editor on the planet stating we can be replaced by a moron and a computer!
