FCS partial install for now (just FCP 7) and add other apps (ie. Motion) later
I have the full Final Cut Studio (version 3 or 5) package. But but for now i only want to install the FCP7 and Compressor apps (limited space on my travel laptop). Would i be able to add the Motion app at a later date or would i end up having to do the entire installation (including fcp7) over again?

Yes, you can do that. Just do a CUSTOM INSTALL in both cases.
NOTE: If you are installing on a computer running MacOS 10.9 Mavericks or 10.10 Yosemite, the version of Compressor that comes with FCP 7 (Final Cut STudio 3)…doesn’t work. A resource it needs isn’t available in the last two os versions…or something. It just doesn’t work…SUBMIT option is greyed out.

yes, like Shane says you can do a custom install.
note also that when you do that you have the option of installing Motion without the templates and animations,
which means it’s a very small install, and may be worth doing.
