[FCS 6.0 -FCP 7.0] AVCHD, yes or NOT?
Hallo,
I’m in total confusion about AVCHD files and FCP…I have a Macbookpro (intel) and FCP 6.0 (but I’m going to buy FCP7.0)
I’ve decided to buy a AG-HMC151E but I’ve discovered that there are a lot of problem between FCP and AVCHD files…
I don’t want to convert all file registered in AVCHD… and I won’t buy this camcorder if I can’t find a solution with FCP (ver.6 o 7 ).
I readed about FCS 2 Upgrade and FCE but I’d like to know if there is a same solution for FCS3 cause this is a NEW version!
So, how can we TODAY, NOW, work with AVCHD files directily in FCP 6 or better, FCS7 ?

Update to 6.0.6 and can work with AVCHD today.

FC 6.0.0 is one of the buggiest ever FC versions.
one week after the release Apple was posting FC 6.0.1 (Pro Application 2.008…)
Very buggy too.
I haven’t updated to FC 6.0.6.
I’m in Fc 6.0.5 and works well.

I know it can manage only AVCintra… -
FC is supporting ACHD and AVC-Intra since FC 6.0.2 (FC release notes).
In FC 7 I guess they have extended the support for AVC-Intra, but they didn’t drop the support to AVCHD:

Someone will correct me if I’m mistaken, but I believe FCP has to convert AVCHD to ProRes in order to edit the files (this occurs during Log & Transfer).
So while it is true that Final Cut can edit AVCHD files, it cannot edit them natively.
Since you said you do not wish to convert all your AVCHD files, I thought I should point this out.

It does have to be converted, so basically yes, but you can specify what you want it converted to, Apple Intermediate Codec, ProRes, in v7 you can go to ProResLT, which I think works very well for this type of media. You can always render composite segments in full ProRes.

for summarize :
FCP 6.0.6 can manage AVCHD files importing in FCP by “Log & Transfer” command.
So you can NOT import in FCP pro and drop in Timeline and edit AVCHD natively files but you have to convert these in Pro res file and than edit.
But which kind of sequence setting I’ve to set ti utilize this ProRes files resulting from conversition? -
