FCPX won’t render video filmed at different frame rates….
I am using a Panasonic HPX 170 with a P2 card.
I recently filmed a video at 720/24pN. I changed the frame rate of one scene to capture at 48 fps so it could be in slow motion. At first when I went to import into FCPX it would import everything at 24pN but not the scene filmed at 48fps.
I did manage do eventually get this done by creating a new Event, then importing that single 48 fps clip, but now it doesn’t render, it just comes out as a jumble of weird colors while the rest of the scene filmed in 24p looks fine… ?? On timeline it reads 100% rendered…

I don’t know why, but if you still have FCS/FCP7, then place it on a new timeline in FCP7, render and export a self-contained QT at 24fps. Then import that into FCP X and replace the other clip. This should get you through the immediate issue.

Was it in 24pN mode? If so, the clip should come Inc conformed, or did you record 48 over 60?

I was in FILM CAM mode then just switched the frame rate from default (shooting at 24pN) and put the frame rate at 48 and then shot the scene.

If you shot 48 frames at 24pN, then the files should come in as slow motion as they are conformed in camera.
Uncheck the option to “remove pulldown” on the import options screen and reimport. That should help you.

Did you reimport the footage or did it just “start working”?

Actually, I completely re-filmed the scene at 48 fps and it imported just fine. I may have done something weird with that one setting. I also filmed at 60 fps and it also worked. It was just that one particular scene that wouldn’t work right…
One thing I did do is I created a separate event for each of the slow motion scenes when I imported them, then I just dragged them onto the timeline with the footage I had done at 24pN. They played and exported just fine.
