I notice in the minimum requirements to run FCPX, that you have to have:
“An OpenCL-capable graphics card or Intel HD Graphics 3000 or later”

I am sure others are wondering what year and model is the cut-off in Macbook Pros.

    I have a MBP 2.33Ghz 17″ which boasts a:
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM and dual-link DVI

I have no clue if this meets the specs, and it’s pretty hard searching on the net, and I didn’t see anything yet on Cow. Anyone have the skinny on this info so I can consider upgrading (either the card or laptop) if necessary?

    Thanks so very much!
    Bill

Easiest way to tell is to go to the app store and attempt to buy it (click on the buy button as normal). When you do, it checks your Mac to be sure it’s up to spec. If not, it’ll pop up and tell you so and say you can’t buy it. Same with the other two apps. My MBP was not up to spec so that’s what happened to me.

It won’t allow you to buy it until you enter your iTunes info anyway so it’s a good way to check

I have the same laptop – its a little long in the tooth these days, but does happily run FCPX
No option to upgrade “the card” though as its all built onto motherboard.

    best wishes

Thanks kindly. I was looking at the apple graphics card sheet and thought the 2.33 17″ didn’t make the cut. Glad you have it running.
Yeah, it is getting old. I’m using the express card slot with a dual 800 FW adapter now since the 800 and 400 busses are toast. It’s been a good workhorse on the road. Thanks again! Bill

I have the 17″ macbook pro 4,1 (March 2008) which is 2.6GHz and has the Geoforce 8600M GT but with 512Mb of VRAM and that downloaded and seems to run fine ( with limited testing of Motion5 and fcpX)
