  • FCPX Rendering every time i start the program / open a project?

Posted by Stan Johanssen on September 20, 2011 at 12:10 pm

Every time i open FCPX or open a project; it seems like FCPX are rendering. It moves really fast so it’s clearly not a “real render” but it is there (se uploaded image).

I have not noticed it before. Have this “rendering” always been there? Or are this some kind of “bug”?

    Stan,

Background rendering was introduced in FCP X and is, on the whole a great feature that is hardly given the credence it should be.
Pre FCP X you have to CMD+R or to wing-it but now FCP X, as you noted will render the project out for you.

If you dislike this feature, that makes use of every single core of your machine available, then click on the duration clock under the ‘canvas/viewer/ window and turn it off.

I find it saves time over the long haul, but horses for courses.

I know about background rendering. But does FCPX really have to render everything all over again as soon as i change projects?

    Stan,

Perhaps turning off background rendering in your preferences will assuage your worries?

    Final Cut Pro>Preferences> Playback>Rendering

It’s not an issue I have but I’m hoping this presents a solution for the moment?

Not a solution really. That step would make editing slower. So it seems like i have to live with it.

I’ve noticed this happening when I apply effects I created myself in Motion. If you open the background tasks, you might see it “loading effects project” or something to that effect. Once it’s loaded, the render bar goes away.

It doesn’t have to be a homemade Motion effect, but its probably related to large Motion effects projects.

If there are no effects on your clips…I don’t know what to tell you.

Andy, I know this is off-topic, but when are you thinking of trying out “Roles?” I’d like to hear your feedback.

I’ll check it out this week sometime. Right now the update for FCPX isn’t even showing up for me. I know I can force it by trashing the program and re-downloading, but I figure its a mad dash at the App Store right now, and I’m not in a hurry.

[Andy Neil] “I’ll check it out this week sometime.”

Cool, love to hear about it. A good fix for that, and a way to export edls might just get me to re-up.

You are right. Made a new project without any effects or “anything” and the “renderbars” are gone when i start FCPX. Seems a bit better in 10.0.1 to. Thank you for the answer.
