We just upgraded our Core 2 Duo iMac at work from 4 to 12GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM.

The question is, are there any preferences/settings I have to adjust in FCPX in order for it to fully utilize the upgrade?

We’re also running on a 64-bit system, fyi.

Let me know if I need to supply additional information for this question.

(With only a core2duo does it even make sense to have 12gb ram???)

    Thanks,

    Hunta

    No settings.
A 64 bit app can utilize all ram.
Just make it work real hard and check Activity monitor in the Os utilities.

I ask because it continues to hang up on a part of my timeline. The sticky part has several clips, consecutively flashed for a few fractions of a second. It is, however, completely rendered.

I wonder if it’s just a general rule of thumb not to abuse edits like that, or if I should be able to see this part when played as a whole.

    Thanks for responding my friend,

    Hunta

the passage might be too heavy for the GPU, no matter how much RAM you got.
try exporting this portion as a self contained clip.
