i’ve been monitoring my fcpx memory usage with free memory pro. never did it use more than the 4 gb
ram witch i have installed on my MBP 2011 2.0 quadcore I7
Why should i buy more ram if it does not use more then my 4gb.
in the past when i bought double the ram say on my old 2007 mbp i never experienced any difrence.
i’ve noticed that my old 2007 mbp is much better in multitascing than this 2011 one. When i use macparrdeluxe with my old mbp i could do other stuff now with my i7 it has trouble opening safari while macparr is runnig ! is this a ram issue to?

How much Ram do you have?

    What OS?

I have an iMac i7 late 2009. It had 8GB memory and FCP X simply bogged down if any other application was running. I upgraded to 16GB with the OWC kit, and what a difference, no more spinning beach balls. I do find that it does not play well with MS WORD 2011.

I highly suggest stuffing as much RAM in there as possible.

With 10.6.8, you can run in 32bit mode, or 64bit mode. 64 will use much more RAM.

When going to Lion, it is 64 bit pretty much all the time, again more RAM.

The reason that you aren’t using more than 4GB of RAM is because you don’t have more than 4GB of RAM.

    🙂

Seconded. The system I’ve been cutting on, an uber iMac with i7 and the big graphics card was using most of the 20 gigs of RAM installed, so this is one of those cases where ‘more is more’…
