  • FCPX – Drag clip to timeline without the audio?

Posted by Markus Mueller on January 19, 2012 at 12:32 pm

I’m editing a video in FCPX and what really drives me crazy is the fact, that every clip I add to the timeline comes with the audio attatched to it. I know that I can unlink the audio from the video, but if I have a lot of clips unlinking seems a bit…unnecessary. In earlier versions of FCP you could just “unlink” the audio track in the timeline and therefore every clip you added to the timeline was without audio.
I’m sure there must be some option in FCPX to add clips to the timeline without the audio track…?

Its in the help manual and Its not complicated – by default the clip will be video and audio however you can select video only or audio only. There is an edit pop up menu in the toolbar.

option 1 = video and audio
    option 2 = video only
    option 3 = audio only

    [Mark Dobson]
option 1 = video and audio
    option 2 = video only
    option 3 = audio only”

Which are coincidentally the shortcut keys as well.

yeah I was going to refer to it as the alt key – however when I checked the FCPX help it referred to it as the option key.

But either way, yes, it’s the keyboard shortcut.

    Moral?

If you’re being driven crazy by something X can’t do. Make sure it can’t do it.

After six months of almost continuous use, I’m still discovering new ways to do things inside X every week.

(there are obviously things it can’t do, but I suspect fewer than many people might imagine.)

    FWIW.
