FCPX does not recognise my media files.

By putting the “private” avchd file in its own folder without any other files, FCPX does see it and opens it just fine. So I just need to put it in its own folder as suggested above. Thanks.

I just made a Disc Image and put the old PRIVATE folder from my hmc150 in it. fcpx 10.1.3 then recognized and imported the footage.
