FCPX + DaVinci Resolve Workflow

December 12, 2021 at 3:37 amHello!
This is my first time working with a Colorist.
I recently edited a project in FCPX. After I locked the cut, I exported an XML and sent the media hard drive to the Colorist.
The Colorist did his thing in DaVinci Resolve and sent the drive back to me. In a new folder on the drive, he exported the newly graded individual clips, but did not export a new XML.
How can I relink these new graded clips in FCPX? The timecode should be the same, so can I just unlink the raw clips and relink the new graded clips based on timecode? Or do I need him to export a new XML from DaVinci?
Thank you!!

December 12, 2021 at 4:31 pmYou need an fcpxml to achieve the relink, since all these new clips are different from the original shots. if the colourist kept the project he might be able to generate it from the deliver page without any clips … i usually output individual clips with handles just to be safe then generate the new fcpxml related to the rendered clips
hope this helps

December 13, 2021 at 4:42 pmYou could just use the newly graded clips, as long as the colorist didn’t change the duration of any of the clips you should be able to swap them out manually. It might take some time but should work.
