  • FCPX and 1080p/50?

Posted by Christopher Grosso on January 3, 2013 at 5:17 am

We have a client from Europe (we are in US) that will be shooting a multicam project that we will be editing. We will be delivering on Blu-Ray and DVD for replication.

Are there any issues with FCPX editing with footage in 1080p/50…as well as 1080p 25? This will be a concert and we will be marrying with audio that will be mastered in 96/24 for surround sound. I have no footage with these specs to test on so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I’d shoot everything 1080p25 unless you are planning to slomo the 50p?

Otherwise you will have to conform the 50p to 25.

    What cameras are you using?

No slo-mo plans as this will be a live concert shoot. I’m not sure as to what cameras they are going to be using…yet..but will find out.

If I suggest shooting at 1080p25 do you see any issues with syncing audio that will be mastered at 24/96. We’ve done plenty of US based shows but haven’t played with any footage from Europe and I’m just trying to forsee any potential issues while I can still suggest workflow. Thanks!

    I don’t see a reason to shoot/post in 1080p50 when it will be mastered/delivered for 25p.

If you were shooting p50 to slow down to p25 then yes, it makes sense, otherwise, save yourself the trouble and shoot at all the same frame rate.

If it is all normal motion, 25p will be much simpler and easier.

Mastering at 24bit 96k is fine.

It will get crunched down for your different deliverables anyway, so you might as well start with the very best.
