FCPX 10.3 breaking links to generated proxies
We are starting to see many clips suddenly showing up as “missing proxies” when all we have done is quit and relaunch the app. I’ve seen mild displays of this kind of erratic behavior in the past before installing FCPX 10.3, but never so many clips as we have lately, all needing proxies regenerated, many are long multicams, so it really ties up FCPX. Looking in the package contents the FCPX generated proxies are still there but the application no longer sees them. The behavior was intermittent but now those proxies aren’t coming back at all.
Has anyone seen this kind of behavior? Perhaps the project file is corrupt because it’s an edit that we share between multiple systems and we are seeing similar behavior on both systems. They both have their own proxy media in self contained proxy only libraries that point to external drives with the optimized/original media that we often don’t even turn on as we are in offline mode. We regenerate proxies but then they go away again.
After years on the same project the FCPX 10.3 upgrade has been very unstable for us, freezing up constantly when the optimized drives are on and this makes it pretty difficult to regenerate proxies without the optimized original media. We’ve restarted the system, reduced all external devices to only the drive that has the libraries in question plus a keyboard and mouse, trashed the preferences file, still the same behavior. Guessing the only other option is to remove FCPX and reinstall?
Of course we are preparing for a client presentation on a deadline. Many thanks in advance for any help, greatly appreciated!
Thanks
