  • FCPv5 – Can’t See ADVC-100 ?

Posted by Ian Greaves on August 24, 2005 at 4:31 pm

I just upgraded to FCPv5 from v4.5 and was just trying to create a quick project and grab some old reference footage from a VHS tape and I realised the FCPv5 doesn’t appear to see my firewire connected Canopus ADVC-100 anymore.

When I go into log and capture and setup for a non controllable device (as I usually have done for this) play my VHS tape and press capture now . . nothing . . . no signal seen

Any Ideas ? . . . Has FCPv5 affected what firewire devices are recognised ?

I went into iMovieHD and it sees the ADVC-100 as a camera attached and can capture / Import video my VHS video signal no problem . . . also Toast Titanium v6 can see the ADVC-100 and capture from it but not FCP !! what gives ? . . . . BUT I DON”T WANT TO CAPTURE FOOTAGE THIS WAY.

    Regards

If you upgraded your system with the Firewire devices connected, then you probably need to go to the Apple site and get the instructions to correct the issue. You should never upgrade FCP or the Mac OS with any firewire devices connected.

Go to the Apple Support site and do a search on Firewire or Firewire re-set.

    Thanks for your reply.

All my firewire devices were off when I upgraded . . . I generally only turn on the ADVC-100 when I’m using it to monitor FCP on my JVC broadcast monitor during editing . . not while uprading software.

I will look again on Apple support but I’m not too sure what I’m looking for.

    Thanks Matte

Ironically I just found the same entry by looking trough Quicktime issue rather than FCP or ADVC-100 or firewire problems.

    Thanks again

One other point has anyone else followed this apple advice and do you loose your Quictime pro functionality when you bin the Quicktime receipts ?
