FCP/QT HDV Export Issues
This may have been addressed before but I’m having a few issues with FCP/QT.
-First, why does my footage shot on a HVRZ1U (1080i 29.97fps HDV) look good while editing in FCP; but after exporting for QT, it looks awful. The colors lose all depth, wash out, and there are many artifacts. Recompress frames is unchecked; I’ve exported using Current Settings, HDV 1080i60, and also went into Custom Settings and made sure it was all set up correctly as the same codec it was captured in. I also tried exporting in ProResHQ and although the artifacts seem to be gone in ProRes, the colors actually look worse after converting to this (which doesn’t make sense, I think). So does anyone know why this happens or how to avoid it?
My second question regarding HDV is, after exporting to HDV, only my computer will play it back. I think you need FCP in order to play HDV. When I try to open the HDV file on another computer that doesn’t have FCP, QT says additional software is required to play this video and directs me to apple’s site w/no explanation of where or which codec to get. So if this is true- what is the point of the HDV codec? – if only the editor can see the finished product, not to mention it’s a terrible codec to edit in; and also that the client will not be able to watch the final video if given to them in HDV format. Is there another format that I can export to that won’t do any more damage to the quality of the footage that HDV hasn’t already done?
In summary- A codec that will play HD on any average computer that doesn’t degrade the quality of HDV?Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
