Just bought top of range Mac Pro 3 GHz dual model with better ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card. Came with 2 GB of RAM, but I’m putting in another 2 GB from Crucial.

I’ve also ordered 3 500 GB internal HDs, they are Western Digital RE 7200 Enterprise models (part number WD5000YS).

From what I understand they just plug straight in, no cables etc. However, I remember from my G4 Powermac days that you had to use Jumpers in certain configurations depending on how many internal drives there were, something to do with master and slave hard drives?

Do I need to do anything like this with the 3 WD drives that I have coming, or do I just plug and play?

Finally, I also have a Black Magic HD Extreme card coming, anything I should know about fitting that baring in mind my ATI Radeon X1900 XT card takes up a lot of space in there.

    Thanks.

You’re in luck! No configuration needed with the SATA drives. Just screw them (upside-down)in the sled, and push them right in.

BMD recommends slot #4 for the card. I have a similar configuration and it works fine. I went with Maxtor drives, but you take the same steps. It’s a great self-contained system.

Any idea why slot 4 is recommended?
