FCP/DSP workflow for hd
OK,
I am trying to take hd out of a canon 60d, and work it though to final product. I encode it for FCP through my encoder at 1080, mix in fcp, compress ( i have tried h264 and mpeg2) I have set the dsp for hd in preferences, then i load it, build, and burn, and voila, a disk, but it will not play in my player in the living room. disc info reads it as hddvd_ts
All I need is one workflow, on path from the 60D to the DVD – or if it is a player issue, how do I verify that – everything else i put in there plays fine, and im sure big bang theory is 1080 – also plays fine in my g5

Your camera records video in h.264 which is NOT a editing codec. You need to convert it to a proper editing codec. Search the Cow on this you will find plenty of info.
As for DVD SP, it will NOT make a HD DVD that will play in your standard DVD player. The HD DVD for mat LOST the war between HD DVD and Blue Ray. The only place you will be able to play a HD disk made in DVD SP will be on a mac or on some old HD DVD players that are no longer sold.
You can however make a a SD DVD in DVD SP, and agin there is plenty of info here on the Cow as to how to do properly do that.

1.Convert your 60D files to ProRes422 in 1920×1080
2.Edit with ProRes files
3.Export Quicktime Movie with current settings
4.Create SD DVD in Compressor ( using frame controls )Search this forum.. Your 60D workflow is exact the same as 5D or 7D

So, I still need to be able to go from fcp taking a finished sequence to a dvd people can watch playing in most to all modern players and playing in HD – what do I need, software, burner, both? And which kind would you reccommend?

I hate to break it to you but DVD players do NOT play HD DVDs or Blue Ray DVDs. Like I said the HD DVD Format is dead so if you want a HD video on disk it is going to have to be BlueRay. But keep in mind the majority of people out there do not have a BlueRay player just regular DVD players.
