  • FCP/Compressor weird encoding Problem

I am running on a G5 dual processor, with Final cut Pro HD. The problem I am encountering is I have roughly a 22 min sequence (Captured using the Black Magic 8bit codec) divided up into three segments destined for DvD. All three segments have been exported separately using compressor into the standard high quality Mpeg2 (m2v) DvD format. The segments are then sent over the server to the graphics department.

Here is the problem. The first two segments open up and play just fine on any system here at the office. The third segment (last third of the timeline in the FCP System) DOES NOT OPEN, or appears corrupted (no response in the viewer) on any other system in the office. However, when I bring the .m2v file back over to the G5, it opens just fine, no problems at all.

I’ve called my tech dude up and he’s said he’s never seen this before.

In summary, all three files are similar in length, have originated from the same timeline, and have identical encoding properties, yet the third segment does not work. I’ve even tried sending the third segment off to it’s own sequence, but the problem persists.

    Any ideas anyone?

Are there any motion files in that third sequence? I have experienced a similar problem which was solved when I exported the graphic elements from motion as rendered QTs rather than reference files and cut them back into the sequence.

No motion files are in the sequence.

However, there are a few internal motion effects in all three of the sequences.

I just ran a quick test by nesting that part of the sequence, and the graphics dept. said they can play the file. I’m going to try and export the whole thing this tim and see if it works.
