Just a question for Avid people. Is your promotion (FCP to MC 5.5) valid to Italy too? There is no mention of it on the italian site. I wrote to the italian marketing rep. and I just received a “I’m not at the office until July 22” automatic answer. We have 5 FCP seats in our company waiting for upgrade. Thanks.

It’s available everywhere. It is not a separate product in the store, though. First one needs to submit this form: https://www.avid.com/us/promo. Then you will receive a discount code. You go to the Avid store, purchase the full version (shippable box, the download does NOT contain the production suite), then at checkout, you can fill in the code you received. This will reduce the price of the full package to more or less the equivalent of 999 USD. It may look like it’s a little more, as the prices in the European store include VAT. But if you supply them with your EU VAT number, you can get that back.

“…supply them with your EU VAT number, you can get that back.”

By “them” do you mean Avid? Is there some kind of refund? I am in Poland and will have the VAT too.

No the Avid store (which is operated by Arvato). For Holland, that appears to be a German store, not sure about other EU countries.
As an intracommunitairy supply (the Arvato store being in one EU country and you in another EU country), provided you are VAT-registered, they can supply at 0% VAT. I think I just sent them an email with my VAT number and asked them to refund it (I had already paid with credit card upon placing the order), which they did.

I’ve notified Avid that it is a weird system. An international EU store, selling professional products to business professionals, should have ex-VAT pricing on their website, and charge no VAT on intracommunitary supplies. Their webstore should let you fill in your EU VAT number. At the very least they should state much clearer that VAT is included (and which rate).

    Job,

Sent your VAT and Pricing feedback to the web/store team earlier today. I’ll let you know when and what I hear back from them.

Actually, there are 3 main warehouse sites that drive all the online store locations. But that doesnt have anything to do wiht the VAT. While Avarto does run the store for us… they take direction from us so this is our issue to attend too.

As soon as I hear I’ll let you know… thanks for emailing me on this as I can’t be “everywhere” and might not have seen this otherwise.

    Thanks, as always, Marianna.

I was wrong about one thing: the store does let you fill in your EU VAT number, so I think you can apply for 0% VAT that way, automatically. However, there’s no telling how much VAT is charged until checkout.
