FCP7 Vs Mavericks 10.9.2
Posted by António Carvalho on March 3, 2014 at 5:39 pmJust a friendly advice.
I made a fresh install in my mac, using the 10.9.1 OS and then installed FCP7.
All went well, it’s was working fine. Then 10.9.2 came out, and i decided to upgrade the OS. Big mistake.
My FCP timelines started with audio bugs like i never had, and my Qio died (so i could not import P2 cards).
I time-machined back to the earlier OS, but now FCP craches my computer randomly.
Just letting you FCP 7 users know, although we are less and less. I’m about to leave Final Cut altogether

March 3, 2014 at 6:05 pmOne does not simply “Time Machine” back to the earlier OS. There are so many things tweaked that doing what you did most likely made things worse. To go to previous OSes, you need to wipe and reinstall. VERY difficult to do with the OS now only available online…not sure how you stick to specific dot releases.

March 3, 2014 at 6:09 pmHello Shane,
Yes, i agree with you. Time-Machine is not a solution, more of a bandaid in case of an emergency, and i’m planning on a new disk format as soon as my machine becomes available for that.
I made an installation Drive for this situations, exactly because the installer is online. Another solucion is to boot pressing the ALT key, and use the recovery drive that is installed with every new OS (since lion, at least)

March 17, 2014 at 6:20 amI’ve read of people having audio problems with 10.9.2. The betas for 10.9.3 specify audio being an area of focus. So perhaps the next Mavericks update will resolve these issues?

March 17, 2014 at 1:19 pmI hope so, although i doubt that have FCP7 into consideration

May 19, 2014 at 6:47 pmHey. Now that 10.9.3 is out, is anyone experiencing any audio problems using Mavericks?

May 20, 2014 at 8:15 pmAfter updating to OSX 10.9.3 my FCP7 won’t open. It tries to start, but while loading things on the startup screen, it jumps back to the finder.
I’m completely angry, after trying several hours to fix this problem. Any of you experienced similar crashs? What can I do? Really need to work with FCP7.

May 21, 2014 at 9:26 amHello Alexander,
I’m about to make that test on my computer tomorrow and will feedback on the outcome.
Do you have any external software that works along with FCP7 (plug-ins, drivers like blackmagic or Kona)?
For a quick fix, you should time-machine back to the earlier version you had (if you time machined of course)

May 21, 2014 at 1:49 pmNo, my FCP7 was totally fresh. The only Plug-In, which was installed, was the Sony XAVC, but this was for FCPX. Here is the log-list from the last startup try:

May 21, 2014 at 2:12 pmOk, it seems your OS and FCP7 are conflicting because FCP7 can’t choose one of two identical files.
I checked my Lybrary to see the duplicates you have, and all i got are alias. I dunno if it’s safe to trash those, but if you already have a conflit, why not? 🙂
Before that, have you connected to App Store and done the latest updates, after you installed FCP7? If not, it might be lacking an update of the ProApps

June 2, 2014 at 2:59 pmSo what is your verdict on installing this 10.9.3 update with FCP 7? I had some crashing issues when I first installed 9.2, but they seemed to have gone away. Any thoughts?
