I’m editing a feature film 1920×1080 23.98 on Final cut Pro 7 (See hardware below). I’ve been editing the same file, same machine, same external drives, media and configuration for over 6 months. Suddenly I get a picture stutter which seems degenerative (gets worse with time) after rendering picture or audio (the problem is global. Other projects on other drives do exactly the same thing) I”ve re-installed FCP, tried a new user profile, repaired permissions, verified all disks, taken lots of suggestions from others and nothing seems to work. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m desperate.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Codec of the footage? Sequence settings? What external drives? Connected how?

How full are those drives? For maximum speed, you need to make sure that the drives have 20% space empty. Meaning only 80% full. For a 1TB drive, that means 800GB of material on it only. Any more than that and the drives slow down.

Each of the drives has plenty of space. Once again though, it doesn’t matter what project I open on what drive, I get the same result.

Yes, that was the first thing I did.
