fcp7 Subclip Error: Unable to add clip to sequence…
Hi,
Anyone know why I get the error after I have created a subclip and drag it down to the timeline?
“Unable to add clip to sequence. Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence”
If I close the sequence and open the same sequence I can add the subclip. If I then make a new subclip the error is back and I have to close the sequence again.
What I do:
1. I add a video clip
2. I add two sound clips
3. I link the three items
4. I cut the clip and delete what I don´t need
4. I dobbel click the clip and create a subclip (the subclip is created and looks good in the viewer)
5. I then drag the subclip down to the same timeline and I get the error, everything in that timeline after the error message will produce the same error message if I “touch” them, if I close the sequence tab and re-open the sequence evrything is fine and I can drag my new subclip down, but once I have created a new subclip I get the error and I have to reopen the sequence to add or move any clips in the timeline.
I also tried the same on another FCP 7.0.1 system and I get the same error. In FCP 6.0.5 everything is fine.
Is something different in FCP 7 with subclips and sequenses?

Can someone add to this? I am having the same issue. It also sometimes prevents me from creating a subclip as the same Sequence Error appears; “Unable to add clip to sequence. Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence”
Any ideas what causes this?

We’re having this problem as well… I’ve seen it in both FCP 7.0.1 & 7.0.2 and on different computers. Are many other people having this problem or has anyone found a fix??

I am having the exact same issue here at work. We work with the latest version of FCP as well.

Tony, this may have been a bug in early versions of FCP 7. Are you up to date?
Also have you tried marking in/ outs and using the paste/ overlay keys rather than dragging? You should be able to drag but I am curious if it is only a dragging bug. I must admit, I haven’t seen a lot of posts on this problem.

No. I don’t drag – I command u – once my video and audio is linked. I’ve been syncing movies like this for years-with no issues. I don’t know what happened.
I already reinstalled final cut and made sure I was up to date.

I had the same problem and discovered that the problem had to do with the video generetor of TEXT.
When you insert text, and then make subclips out of it, this message comes out.I deleted the text subclips and it worked fine

On FCP 7.0.3 and still having this problem!
I’ve worked out a fix… it’s very clumsy but if you already have 3 hours of rushes sync on a timeline and you don’t want to have to throw that work away, this is probably a workable bandaid.
The bug occurs when you subclip something originating from dual audio/video sources. So instead of making subclips, make a MERGED clip.
1. On your sunc timeline, trim in and out points of audio and video so that they are the same duration.
2. Grab both clips from the timeline and drag and drop them into the browser. They will appear as new, seperate audio and video file.
3. Highlight them both (they should already be highlighted), right click and select ‘Merge clips’ from the pop-up menu
4. Best to delete the 2 audio and video files you used to make this clip, to keep things tidy.If anyone has a more elegant fix, please post! But in future, I would recommend using Avid for projects involving dual audio and video originating on different sources.

I had the same problem with this for years and just found out a solution that worked for me.
On the upper right hand corner of your timeline there are three buttons, display options. Make sure the one in the middle is activated!!! (linked selection)
No more error message anymore 🙂 Hope it works for you.
I now can create subclips, delete them from the timeline and create new ones again and again without any problems
(I use FCP 7.0.3)
