December 26, 2015 at 8:49 pmI just take one of their presets and “mod” it as needed. I may end up with 4-6 variations that I then test and look at the quality difference vs. compression time and file size to see what works best overall.
You may find that you can’t use 2 of the spatial parameters as it will yeild an error and not render. Google to find the full story.
I found this to be a non-issue and always get great, but slow, results from compressor.

December 27, 2015 at 10:38 pmDid Aja or Matrox ever make a card for a mac Power PC tower that would convert to HD and scale? I have an old mac tower and it would be better to convert from a deck via an old mac than have to buy a new card and a new mac tower running OSX.
Still got $20 burning a hole in my paypal account!

December 27, 2015 at 10:43 pmDid you keep the 4/3 aspect ratio of your SD footage or crop it to 16:9?
I plan to keep the aspect ratio 4:3, and wonder what settings would be used to up-res it? My current digital SD files are Prores 720X486, 29.97 fps, 24 bit audio Little endian.
Compressor doesn’t seem to offer a prores HD 4:3 preset. What would be the settings? Would it stay in Prores?
Thanks.

AJA…yes. The AJA Kona 2. Only way to get it would be used. Matrox didn’t make hardware for the PowerPC. They did a DVI unit (Matrox MXO) and then PCie and Express34 slot MXO2 options.

There are options to keep 4:3. I do that myself. It’s called Pillarbox.

December 30, 2015 at 9:25 pmOur goal was to take Beta SP SD 720×486 4:3 to HD 1920×1080 30p. In order to do this I used a ProRes 1920×1080 HD setting in Compressor and changed a few parameters to get the tech results I wanted.
Like Shane said, HD 4:3 is not an option. You will be laying in a 4:3 video into a 16:9 space, thus creating letter boxes on the sides called pillar boxes.
