Installed a new RAID array on my workstation and copied my Final Cut data to it. Now all my media is offline which is normal, but in Avid I just point Avid to the folder and voila. Final Cut will not reconnect and I’m going crazy under a deadline.

Anyone run into weirdness like this? i looked at one post in the forum called “Reconnect Media Hell” and they were having a similar problem with no resolution. ARGH. Final Cut is used too much – it can’t be this much of a pain can it?

Did you hit cancle when you opened your project when FCP asked you to reconnect?

If so, you simply select all the media in the browser, right click and choose Reconnect Media and then tell FCP to search on your new raid.

There are a LOT of reconnecting posts today on the forums…what’s going on? people moving things to new drives, or having two drives with the same media, but not organized at all in the same way, so going back and forth reconnecting is hell.

I’ll answer with the answer I gave here:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2370835&tstart=0

“Highlight all the clips in the timeline and hit RECONNECT…or all the clips in the Browser that are offline and RECONNECT.”

And no, it isn’t much of a pain. MUCH of the issue people have with it are caused by user error…because FCP is so open that it can do a lot. Avid is pretty closed, and therefore nearly idiot-proof. So when you are used to that, you can get pretty careless when FCP really needs you to pay attention.

Thanks guys. I think I figured it out – these were MXF files from a Panny that didn’t have that txt file for FCP. Blah, blah I had to purchase Calibrated to read them (shane, you helped me with that).

Last week had to reinstall Snow Leopard which of course did away with Calibrated. I think that is why FCP will not show anything now. It does the reconnect, but then doesn’t show video.

Whew….good. At least there is a reason. =) THANKS.

And wow…just got a proactive email from Calibrated after they saw my forum post offering to help out. Impressive!
