October 14, 2011 at 10:10 pmActually since this morning there is a new way. You can send a project from FCP7 to FCPX thru DaVinci Resolve…and back. Here is the video tutorial I did.

Only the sound isn’t going through.

Very cool! Will this work with Resolve Lite?

October 15, 2011 at 1:15 amCould be. Resolve Lite supports roundtripping and is now updates to V8.1 so it should be able to handle FCPX XML. I can’t test it cause I have the full version on both of my macs. But keep me posted if you try it and it works

October 15, 2011 at 1:42 amI’m trying it out right now, but when I try to import the FCP7 xml in Resolve, it always tells me, “No clips can be found. Please add clips to the media pool and try reimporting“. I’ve pointed it to the folder where the clips reside, but no go. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

A little birdie told me that would happen. And the cost for this tool would be . . . and it does a bit ‘o grading too.
Kinda explains the facial expression I got from one of the Blackmagic guys at their booth at CCW yesterday when I asked how soon and maybe lite too.

October 16, 2011 at 1:34 pmI tried doing it through the Lite version and it works.
With a few bugs:anamorphic sd did not get flagged properly so when opening my mixed sd media sequence in FCPx, formats were a bit all over the place. Cross dissolve does get replaced but opacity adjustments do not make it through.
Titles appear as a transparent clip connected to the primary storyline. For me the fact that audio does not make it through is a deal breaker but hey, Resolve lite is for free so…
