  • FCP7 out of memory when trying to render … no stills

Posted by Adam Kraft on June 27, 2012 at 5:34 pm

    Hi,

I’m using FCP7 and having a problem when trying to render in my timeline. I get the “Error: Out of Memory” message when I try to render, and now when I even click on a click to view it in the Canvas, the canvas either goes to a black screen or a white screen.

I have no still images in my video, unless Text from the Text Generators counts as a still. I do have five layers of text tracks along with my video.

I have used the Render Manager to get ride of render files, and am still having this issue.

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

    Thanks,

    Adam

What are your sequence settings? This may shed the light on your problem.

My bet they are using a long gop format like XDCAM or HDV.
When editing with long gop and you do a lot of scrubbing it sucks up the memory for frame calculations and for some reason never returns all the memory when finished scrubbing (memory leak).
The only solution is to occasionally close FCP and then re-open; otherwise you will get a visit from General Error and then you will be in all sorts of problems…..

Another possibility is using fx plugins without enough GPU and GPU memory.

Thanks… Yes, I started getting General Error messages. I simply restarted FCP and everything worked fine.

    Thanks again!
