fcp6 will not capture from xl h1 via firewire…
Posted by Delano Bryant on August 22, 2007 at 3:19 pmHas anyone found the fix for this? I’ve connected the camera via firewire and fcp doesn’t see it. I am using the studio 2 fcp.

August 22, 2007 at 3:53 pmEverytime somebody brings in a canon HDV camera the firewire port is turned off in the menu.
have you checked that?

August 22, 2007 at 4:22 pmVery simple. In the “playback standard” setting in the menu, make sure it’s set to HDV. The default is Auto. FCP will not capture without setting it to HDV. Do all this before you plug the camera into the computer. It will work.

August 22, 2007 at 4:52 pmno i did not check the firewire port in the camera. Is that turned on when I select HDV?
Is that the color red you want to use?

August 22, 2007 at 5:08 pmOk, I did that on the camera settings. Now What settings do you use in FCP 6? I have the log and catpture window come up… but it says no communication.

August 22, 2007 at 5:20 pmwhat version of fcp are you running?
I would run the easy setup for “HDV 1080i firewire basic”

August 22, 2007 at 5:31 pmI have the latest of fcp 6. I keep getting some kind of error message that says hdv devices can’t all be set to the same?

August 22, 2007 at 5:54 pmYou can use the easy setup as described, but I just set the device control to HDV Firewire and the capture preset to HDV, do all this before you plug in the camera and it should work.

August 22, 2007 at 6:08 pmI’ve done that and it seems to have a conflict with the camera. Question. Footage shot 1080i60 can that be brought into a DV NTSC timeline?

August 23, 2007 at 11:45 amHmmm,
You might try pushing the reset button on top of the camera and start over.

August 24, 2007 at 3:10 amCheck with Canon that you have the latest firmware. If not, they will send it to you in the mail.
