  • FCP6 – Crashing when duplicating through Media Manager

    Hi

I have a client on FCP6 (latest version of it, I believe) on a 27″ iMac with 10.6.

She has a project with ~1.5TB media spread across a couple of locations, and wants to move everything to a new drive so she can send it down to her editor. However, every time she tries to use Media Manager, FCP copies around 500GB of files, and then crashes.

Here are the media manager settings I’ve instructed her to use:
COPY media referenced by duplicated items
    Include render files
    Include master files outside selection
    DO NOT delete unused media
Base media file names on existing file names
Duplicate selected items and place into a new project

One complicating factor is that she currently has two project files – one containing bins and folders for the original tape captures, and one containing just her sequences (whose media is obviously a subset of the full tape media).

We’ve deleted the main preference files, the thumbnail cache/data files, and created a brand new project file with bins from both projects. The offending crash thread does have several mentions of Media Manager plugin – nothing else stands out especially. (I can post if need be.) So I suspect there’s something amiss with a bit of media or corrupt sequence somewhere.

My assumption – and if anyone can confirm or correct, I’d be grateful – is that if she used Media Manager to duplicate each project (tapes and sequences), FCP would copy any overlapping media TWICE, rather than intelligently know that it already has the associated media on the new drive. Anyone know differently? If that’s NOT the case, I wouldn’t hesitate to instruct her to cut the project files down into smaller chunks and then recombine into one or two project files after the media is copied.

    Any help gratefully received!
