  • FCP6 and Canon XH A1 HELP !!!!!!

Posted by Brian Simon on January 26, 2008 at 2:49 am

Ok, I’ve read every website and every forum and have followed everyone’s instructions from changing settings in FCP6 and in the Canon XH A1 and still can’t get this to capture the HDV footage.

I’m editing a wedding for someone who shot it with this camera and am using the camera as the deck. I’ve never had a problem like this before using the Panasonic HVX, but am getting frustrated trying to figure this out.

Does this camera work in FCP6 or what? Can someone help at all. I have tried it on my G5 dual 2.5 w/8 gigs ram and 4TB of HD space and on a MacPro dual Intel 2 with the same specs as the G5. This camera is a PAIN!

I don’t mean to offend anyone who owns this camera but I’m beyond frustrated. I’ve tried using my HVX as the deck with the Canon XH A1 tape and well again, tapes shot with Canon cameras don’t like to be played in other cameras.

Any help at this point would be wonderful.
    PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!

    Thanks All

You didn’t exactly say what was happening when you tried to capture – was it not seeing the camera?

Check the A1’s output settings under and set the appropriate output before you connect the firewire cable and before you launch FCP. It’s important to do this in the right sequence, and a common mistake to do it with the firewire cable attached, which might be your problem.
