I just set up FCP5 with my Z1 HDV camera as a deck. My problem is that I can see the video when
digitizing, but not on playback. I have external video clips set to all frames, but can not see
    playback on my video monitor.

    what am I doing wrong?

How is your external monitor hooked up to FCP? Through the camera?

If so, first ensure that your Audio Video Settings are set to send out audio and video via Firewire. Also ensure that your output settings are correct. That is, if you’re editing HDV, make sure you’re sending an HDV signal back out to the camera. If you’re sending the wrong signal back out to the camera, it most likely would not show an image.

Lastly, ensure that your camera is set up correctly to pass the video through to the monitor.

Hi Walter…thank you so much for responding!!!
I am sending it back through the camera and can see it on the monitor
when I”m digitizing, but not on timeline playback…the playback options
for the HDV 1080i are greyed out and only the desktop preview is viewable…

    Aughhh…..HELP!!!!
