FCP5 Render problems and weirdness
Hello all.
I switched to FCP5 from HD about a month ago… Since then, I’ve had a number of problems with rendering sequences:
1. If I move a clip that need rendering next to a clip that’s already been rendered, the first few frames of the pre-rendered clip suddenly need rendering again. I’ve not overwritten or changed the clip in any way – just moved a clip next to it. This is intermittent, but irritating nonetheless.
2. Again intermittent, but if I delete a clip from a layer above a clip, the clip below will sometimes still play back as if the original clip was still above it! This has also happened when removing a transition effect – the clips play back as if the transition was still there. The only workaround I’ve found is to force the whole clip to re-render by slipping it forwards and backwards.
Is it just me? …I’ve had a search for similar problems, but not found anything…
Any help would be, frankly, fantastic.

i can’t tell you the cause of these intermitent problems, but in these circumstances i would be tempted to trash fcp’s preferences and render files.

Yar, I’m with Andy.
But I might suggest you also prepare yourself for a complete reinstallation of FCP or Studio. Your machine has somehow lost the ability to track render files. No idea how it might have happened but it either totally esoteric or a weird user error such as renaming a drive or moving a scratch disk’s contents or having two projects with the same name.Before you try anything dramatic, you might read up on the Render Manager operations and play with that next-to-useless beast for a few minutes. It’s supposed to know when to replace your render files as they become useless or outdated. It’s easy to screw it up since it seems to be based on the same terribly flawed database files that talk to the thrice-cursed Media Manager.
