    My SYSTEM

MAC dual G5 2.5 gig. 4.5 gb RAM. OS 10.3.8
    Blackmagic Decklink Extreme card v4.8b
    FCP 4.5 production Suite
    500GB G-Raid Firewire800
    Decks = Beta-SP, DVCpro, DigiBeta.
Audio Mix = Mackie 1604 VLZpro

I’ve read so much of ups & downs upgrading to FCP5 & OSX tiger.
I am contemplating a sfeguard. I bought another drive to put in the G5. Do a fresh install and testing. If anything goes
wrong, I still have the original hard drive to put back to go back to 10.3.8 and FCP4.5
    This should work HUH?
    Thanks in advance

pluginz.com & toolfarm.com both sell lots of plug in sets for FCP. Perhaps they’ll have something more to your liking. But without knowing which transitions your looking for in particular, it’s hard for anybody can help you with specific information.

It should work. You can also try Carbon Copy Cloner which is great for backing your entire system.

Make sure you back up all your project files in case you need to go back to 4.5.

It’s gonna work great… do use copies of the FCP 4 sequences, and you should be good to go… Run Software update to get to 10.4.2, QT7.1… then run the Suite install…. update it to 5.0.2 and accept everything in Software update… I just did exactly this when 10.4.2 came out, and I’m a very happy camper here…

    Ed,

This is exactly what you should do when committing to becoming R&D for Apple.

I suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner to back up you entire boot drive and then use the clone to do the upgrade on.

Never touch your original boot drive.

I do this ever time I venture forth to upgrade to the next big Apple OS screwup.

I learned the hardway from the early days of OS X.
