  • FCP5 Angle gets out of sync in multiclip sequence

Posted by Mike Manor on September 21, 2005 at 10:28 pm

I’m a new convert to FCP5 (having bailed from Media100 – well they bailed on us first) but I’m sold and love it. One problem though. Once I’ve made my multiclip sequence and get it up and running, and it all looks great, and everything seems to be running smoothly. Even though I can view/play all three camera angles, make my cuts, etc, I quickly see that one of the camera angles is out of sync.

I don’t know what I need to do to make sure are all in sync after I’ve made the multiclip. Here’s how I prepared: First, I synced all 3 on the timeline and then cut all three at the same point where the event begins and cut the ends at the same point. Timeline playback showed they were the same size and played in sync. I put all 3 in a bin and made a multi clip (using the sync by inpoints choice) and then all was well like I said except the one angle was out of sync.

Any ideas what I can/need to do or where I can go for info/help? Is there a good tutorial out there for FCP5 beside the 400 lb manual that comes along?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Instead of using timecode points to line up your clips, set inpoints on them all.
I had the same problem recently trying to link 9 camera’s, once i used in points not timecode sync, it worked perfectly.

    Hope this helps

“Instead of using timecode points to line up your clips, set inpoints on them all.”

Yes, you need to actually SET THE INPOINT (blue arrow) at the beginning of all the clips you want to link, no need to cut them as FCP looks to the inpoint, not the cut point.
    I made the same mistake.
