Does anyone know about the compatability of the kona2 and fcp5. I’m about to start editing a film and want to upgrade but want to make sure that that is not a bad decision. I would hope that it’s fine and might even boost performance in a way but I’m not positive, any Ideas?

Maybe check with AJA. Not only is FCP5 a new version but we have a whole new architecture in quicktime7 not to mention the OS upgrade to Tiger (although it will run on OS10.3.9). If you don’t have a heavy deadline it sure would be tempting but there are a whole lot of variables here. It won’t ship till the 29th either.

Both the Io and the Kona 2 will support all of the functions in FCP5 when it ships. HDV editing will use the scaler technology to allow for Video out using the Kona 2 board. as FCP needs hardware to playout native HDV content to a broadcast monitor.

Other apps such as Soundtrack Pro will sue the K2 board. STpro uses the Core Audio / Video to play out your STPro project files (both audio and video) out via the K2.
