FCP5 and exporting MPEG2
Posted by Klaus on July 7, 2005 at 11:32 pmHaving recently installed FCP 5 as part of Production Studio, I have found that when I attempt to export as a Quicktime Conversion, the option of exporting as MPEG2 does not appear. According to the manual, if you have installed Compressor or DVD Studio Pro you should be able to export as MPEG2. Any idea how to re-enable this function?

July 8, 2005 at 6:38 pmIf you “Export Using Compressor”, you will then have all kinds of presets for MPEG2 in Compressor. I think you can just drag and drop FCP project files into Comrpessor too, if you want, if you don’t have FCP loaded and you want to encode a project from the Finder.

July 8, 2005 at 6:53 pmI spoke to Apple Support this morning, and apparently, they purposely left out MPEG2 from the export options with FCP5, because they claim it did not work well. Too bad, because I used it to help me estimate the bit-rate for a project before I encoded with Compressor.

July 11, 2005 at 2:43 amFurther to this: exporting using Compressor works OK but seems to take about twice the length of time. Does anyone else find this? Any idea why?
