FCP X Running Really Slow
I have a mac mini running mavericks with a 2.6 i7 processor and 16 GB of ram. I am cutting a project on a 1TB G tech drive over Firewire 800 with 30 percent of its space free.
The media is all 5D transcoded and optimized in FCPX at Pro Res.
I have tried turning off wave forms and downgrading clip appearance in the timeline all the way over to make them look like blank bars.
I am really frustrated and don’t know why FCPX is still running slow.
In the past, FCP 7 would run faster with the same footage and hard drive, but with less ram and an older processor on a macbook pro laptop I used to use.
Can anyone help me with suggestions?

No matter what, because of some bugs, at times FCPX will just be unresponsive for a bit. So factor that in.
Here are some things you can try:
The first thing I would do is close FCPX and repair disk permissions on your system drive and repair the firewire drive.
Then I would use digital rebellion’s preference manager to delete the preferences.
Those 2 steps eliminate a lot of problems.
Next I would set the background render to 45 seconds or more.
Check your energy preferences and make sure your hard drive and computer aren’t going to sleep too soon.
Check the info of the FCPX app in finder and make sure app nap is off.
If none of that speeds it up, and you’re sure it’s worse for you than other people, you might have some corruption in your library or media.
To check for that, delete all of your render files and transcoded media. Move your original media somewhere safe.
Reimport, retranscode, and see if that helps.

What works better to me is to hide browser while editing.

Same thing here, it is pathetic! I have a 2013 MacPro and it is so sluggish editing a 3min trailer!!
