    Hi All,

Last year I worked as an assistant editor using FCP 7. I edited using proxy files, then sent a project file back to the chief editor for relinking with the high quality media in his system. This was all well and good when project files could easily be sent back and forth.

Now I’m in FCP X, and I need to edit on the road. I need to contain everything on a small LaCie rugged 500 gb drive, which can be done as long as my media is in a proxy format. My question is, when it is all finished, what do I do to relink this entire project I have created to my master hard drive with all of my high quality media? Is it as simple as a cut and paste of the “Final Cut Projects” folder?

    Thanks in advance!

    It’s actually fairly easy.

Duplicate the Project using FCPX on your road machine (this creates a new Project ID).

Then, add the appropriate folder to the Final Cut Projects folder on the main system and launch FCPX.

Make sure your prefs are set to “Use Original or High Quality” media and you’re done.
