FCP X over two monitors

There’s setups for two monitors, yes, but the interface is different from FCP7 in that it’s more fixed and not as customizable.

That being said, I like having two monitors for FCPX.

No, there’s fixed setups.

You can set the Events on one monitor, or set the Viewers on the other monitors.

The X interface is simply different in this regard.

These are old shots (before the 10.0.6 dual viewer and new scope views), but here you can see how it might look.

You. Can put either the events or the viewers on the second monitor. Depends on how you work but I put my events on second monitor. In 7 I put my bins on same monitor.

You are also locked into which monitor is the secondary monitor. It’s based on whether you have the Mac menu bar on the left or right screen. If you have the menu on the top of the right monitor, the secondary screen is the left one.

Here’s what it looks. I don’t have my media drive with me, so you’ll have to excuse my little mocked up demonstration with not a lot of footage.

Note the menu bar is always on the left.

After initially setting up the scope size, I didn’t change anything between all three of these grabs except the “view” just to show you what happens when you select the different options.

There’s room, yes.

You have to get used to it. It is more fixed than FCP the Elder.

I like having the viewers on their own and having a giant skim able area of footage, but that’s just me.

You can hide the Event viewer (the left one) if you’d like, or if you do multicam you can bring up the Angle viewer which would be to the left of the Viewer.
