FCP X iSCSI and MD1000 setup
As you all know FCP X now has SAN support. Our media dept has just recently expanded our storage by buying another powervault MD1000 hooked up to a poweredge file server running windows server 20003. I didn’t know much about SAN but after seeing support for it with FCP X it made me wonder if we should instead hook up the MD1000 in an iSCSI setup.
I got a copy of openfiler and set up a small test drive on our esxi server. I’m able to successfully create a LUN and connect to it with my mac via globalSAN. I guess that FCP X does not support this as a SAN though as the add button is still greyed out when I select the volume.
Since we just bought the MD1000 I’m wondering if there is a way to use this in a SAN configuration that FCP X will accept. I’ve read around these forums and it seems that DIY SAN is kind of discouraged, but since we are a non-profit I’d like to try my best to use what we have and make it work. Our esxi server has a 4port nic which we hope to aggregate to help with bandwidth. We only have two editors at the moment editing XDCAM EX footage so our bandwidth requirements aren’t that demanding. Again I’m kind of a noob with SAN so forgive me if I’m not using the terminology right.

How did you format your iSCSI LUN once you connected to it with globalSAN?
Did you use an Apple Partition Map when creating an HFS+ Volume?I’ve used FCP X with iSANmp over iSCSI connecting to our own iSCSI Targets (globalSAN X series and EVO).
If you’re going to have more than one computer connect to the same iSCSI LUNs at the same time, you will also need to use SAN management software in order prevent file system corruption. We have our SAN management software, iSANmp, for iSCSI environments which is now less than $200 per seat.

Thanks for the reply. I formatted the drive to Mac journaled. We would like to have multiple computers connected but the fcp x help guide says this is not possible. It says only one fcp x user can be attached to the San at a time. Does isanmp get around this?
