July 19, 2011 at 7:56 pmSupport for the letter G was dropped in this version. The programmers couldn’t be expected to support all 26 letters of the alphabet in V.1 of this software.
No.. Seriously ….. Your drive must be formatted HFS+ aka MacOS Extended.
It can’t be NTFS or FAT 32.

July 19, 2011 at 8:01 pmi don’t know what mine is formatted at? how find out and how change? will this affect other files on the g-raid if re-format? it worked fine for previous versions of fcp…is this a due to new fcp x programming?

July 19, 2011 at 8:32 pmClick on the g raid in the Finder and then press command-I (get info)
It will tell you how its formatted in the Get Info window.
If it’s not HFS+ (Mac OS Extended), you would need to re format it. Unfortunately, this means copying all the data to another drive and erasing it. You do that using Disk Utility located in your Utilities Folder.
Unlike previous versions of FCP, your drive must be MAC Formatted to use it with FCPX.
G-Raids usually come Mac Formatted, however, someone could have reformatted it before it got in your hands.
