Interesting how Apple will not be present at the FCP Supermeet in London tomorrow night.

I feel awful for Larry Jordan, who is going to feel the brunt of the wrath…

For the life of me, I can’t figure out what Apple’s strategy was in previewing in at NAB – why would show a teaser to that crowd that raises all of these questions if you knew you weren’t going to have happy answers 2 months later?

Why even go there? And Jobs adamant denials last fall that FCP was going prosumer? I believe they even issued a press release that used the words, “committed to the professional market”. Anyone remember that?

They had to know they were setting up the biggest backlash they’ve ever seen!

Great question David, which I’ve raised here myself David. It certainly begs for explanation from those at Apple who brought so much attention to such a foolish endeavor.

As I’ve speculated previously, the decision was made solely in order to trump Avid. Avid was going to have a dog and pony show in front of the FCP users group, and Apple simply wanted to stand in their way. The intention was not to show FCP, but to keep Avid from showing anything.

Larry took no questions – only a careful selection of written card questions.
Then he showed off the magnetic timeline to a completely silent room.
