    Dear Creative Cow members,

I am doing a test project with FCPX where I have synchronized clips (DSLR optimized footage and wave files on a timeline. For some strange reason the audio shows up as red with no audio waveforms. When I look the the project settings, it says files are missing. In the events browser the audio clips and synchronized clips show up as red and have yellow exclamation points. Funny thing is, the audio files are there. The red clips even play the sound that they are supposed to play. I can’t find a reconnect command and I tried deleting the render files, restarting. I tried restarting the program without the .fcpevent file, and without the transcoded media.

The back story is, I moved the final cut events and project from my external HD on my desktop to the internal HD on my laptop. Those files I originally chose not to import media so it just creates aliases in the original media folder. Naturally, I dragged the original source media to the original media folder in the events folder. The video is fine. Only the audio is a problem. But the audio plays, and when I choose reveal in finder it will show me the clip.

By moving the clips out of their original folder, the link via the aliases has been broken. At least that what it sounds like to me.

See if “modify event references” works for you.

I think you can also try re-importing the missing media, and it should relink.

Excellent! Reimporting the clips worked. It didn’t even create new clips. It just took away the red and the yellow exclamation point. Thanks so much everyone for your replies.

    Happy New Year.
