Why Mojave now? Because the latest FCPX version will not work on High Sierra and Catalina has not yet proven itself. There may be issues with moving from High Sierra to Mojave just like there maybe be going to Catalina.

I just wanted to be par with one of the editors here.
He updated to Mojave a few months ago and I generally like to keep the same OS when sharing projects.
We have over a dozen nMPs here and only one was moved Mojave by accident.
Not just FCPX here, Avid and Premiere too.
And I def would never jump onto Catalina till the smoke clears.
Thus why I wanted to try Mojave, I am hearing less noise of late on that one. -

Mojave is fine. All my machines are on it. Same mix of apps. The one caveat for me is that I don’t like its dark mode. It’s not like dark mode in HS, because all backgrounds (like in Text Edit) are dark with white text, not just the menu bar. There is a Terminal command (hack) that gives you a similar appearance to dark mode in HS. Otherwise, it nags a bit more than HS with various permissions requests, including frequent requests to allow (or not) an app to access your internal microphone.
Of course, it’s the last macOS version that still permits 32-bit apps.

With my far sight issues I dont mind the dark mode.
Now to find a way to upgrade a few High Sierra units to Mojave…. -

I run Snow Leopard, the most stable OS X of its era, in order to run the last iteration of FCP Studio 7.0.3 (or 4, I forget) … on a MBP 17″ … and also on one of the first gen silver iMac. Those two machines exist only to run legacy stuff. And that means dogging down a video card for the iMac when it fails, etc.
But for the new stuff, I agree with Bill Davis, you get the new gear, the stable latest apps and exploit the things you can do … like that Sidecar workflow Bill describes.

Except, probably hold off on Catalina for a while until Apple gets the issues straightened out. There now are some users reporting loss of Mail data. Catalina is already in the 10.15.1 beta phase, which seems pretty early for that.

Haha, good advice Oliver. I find that Mail is a funky app continuously through all iterations of OS X!

More on Catalina.
So in spite of the 32-bit issue, there are more complex compatibility issues that couldn’t truly have been known until the final version of the OS was actually released.

I was beginning to fret as there hadn’t been a Resolve update for 5 weeks but they just released 16.1 . The list of improvements and new features is pretty significant. Compared to this long waited for FCPX update, which seems to be mostly about prep for new Mac hardware, how does the community feel about the pace and improvements to X by comparison?
