FCP X 10.4.7 is out

Believe it or not – alot of people still use these.
Im on one as I type. Not mine personally but the company I work for. Its still a beast for editorial.
Its got 128 gigs of ram and a 16gig titan x gfx card. Internal SSD raid. It flies. Unfortunately its stuck on high Sierra for good now but up until that this is still chugging along making the company plenty of money while having been paid off for 8 years.

I tend to hang on longer when I’m busy with a project.
Last year, I had to hang on to 10.4.3 due to one client for half a year.
She did not want to upgrade so I stayed with that version.
Helps when other clients were Premiere/Avid based. -

What don’t you understand. I have a 2012 Mac Pro 12 core 3.46GHz Xeon processors with a ton of ram and a Sapphire RX580 card. It will not run Catalina. BUT my 13 2012 MacBook Pro with intel integrated graphics will.
Do the math, it a forced upgrade of a perfectly powerful and capable Mac Pro. It’s an arbitrary decision Apple made to up their bottom line as there is nothing about the Mac Pro I own that isn’t capable of running Catalina.

Not to take away from the validity of continuing to use your tower, but I’m not sure the above comment is completely true.
I have a mid-2009 Mac Pro with a Sapphire card that I was able to bump up to High Sierra. At that same point I also bumped up my mid-2014 MacBook Pro. Theoretically both should have been able to run the same versions of everything at that point. However, when I went to upgrade Pixelmator Pro, the MBP was fine, but the older tower wasn’t because of Metal compatibility issues.
Catalina drops support for a number of core technologies. One of these is Firewire i/o support. All of these things affect what will or won’t work. The bottom line for you is to go to Mojave and stop there. Currently there doesn’t seem to be any app that requires Catalina, yet, nor is improved with Catalina. But it’s still early.

Iʻm running macOS High Sierra on my late 2013 iMac 27″ and FCPX 10.4.6. I also run M$ Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite 6.6. What am I looking at for upgrading to Mojave 10.14.6 and FCPX 10.4.7?

I did some simple FCPX 10.4.7 performance tests on my 10-core Vega64 iMac Pro, running Mojave 10.14.6.
The BruceX benchmark is about 2x faster than on 10.4.6. In fact it’s so fast I have to append about 5 BruceX timelines and divide the elapsed time by 5 to get an approximate number, which is 5.2 seconds.
Exporting a rendered 4k ProRes 422 timeline to 1080p H264 is about 40% faster.
No difference seen in Neat Video 5.1.2. That’s expected since it’s on the same macOS and the code path is largely within the plugin not within FCPX.
However in general it appears GPU code paths on built-in effects are a lot faster, also some encode/decode paths.

Good to hear. Makes sense. This update is all about optimization for cores and GPUs. The more cores, the more grunt your GPUs offer, the faster it is.

On this topic, how do you upgrade to Mojave now?
With Catalina in the wild, I can’t seem to find an option for Mojave anywhere.
I also noticed that all my Macs with Mojave installed are missing the “Install Mojave” app in the Application folder.
