    Hi all,

I have this issue where I want to record a voice over from my studio into FCP. The connections seem to work just fine (I’ve patched it through to other systems and it worked on AVID). Secondly, I figured it might be a problem with the analog INs of the Aja, so I posted a question on the AJA Io forum. They suggested to hook up a VTR directly in AJA with everything on mac shut down. That worked.

It seems when I open FCP, the input blocks off. Moreso, when I use the Voice Over tool, FCP not only records absolutely nothing, it also feedbacks the audio from the timeline. It doesn’t do that when the VO tool is closed.

In the AV settings, the Device Control is set to AJA IoHD: 25 Sony VTR. The videoplayback is set to AJA IoHD 625i25 8bits and the Audio playback is set to AJA IoHD.
In the capture presets, I get the following summary concerning audio: Using AJA IoHD for audio input. Input: default. Format: 48.000 KHz 24-bit 8 channels. Speaker: OFF (Don’t know for sure wether it is relevant. Volume: 100, Gain: 101.
In the AV devices tab all is quite similar: AJA IoHD for audio. The video is mirrored on desktop.

There must be something I’ve missed?

    Greets and thanks in advance,

    Brecht

Did anyone on the AJA forum say they were successfully recording through an IoHD using the voice over tool in FCP? Last time I tried this and looked into it (granted, it was a while ago) I was told most emphatically that it wouldn’t work – so I always record VO’s to a DV timeline using a firewire device setting if I need or send audio in/out through an alternative Maudio external audio soundcard.

    The learning never ends…

Ive had trouble before with AJA audio inputs, and the alternative for $100 is the Blue snowball mic. Its the best USB mic made for FCP on the market.

Very simple, plug the mic in through USB and open the audio mixing tool and you are in action.

    Hi Simon,

I’ve called with the local dealer here in Brussels. Unfortunately, what you’re saying seems correct. He stated that AJA was not able to simultaneously receive and send out the audio signal, I figure that’s where the feedback comes from. He suggested to put a small mixette in between the patching panel and the computer so the voice coming in will go straight to the computer.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the issue with not being able to receive analog audio. I’ve updated the AJA drivers yesterday to 6.0.3 but it didn’t work. The dealer told me to reinstall the drivers, but I don’t have that much experience with mac or its applications to confirm that I’m doing things correctly. I have this thought that installing the 6.0.3 driver should be sufficient to state that I ‘reinstalled’ it? Or am I wrong here.

My question is: How do I go about reinstalling the drivers. I’m weary of doing things wrong and making it worse.

    Regards,

    Brecht

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, we have invested in a nice voice over studio and we’d like to still be able to use it. I’ve ringed our local dealer and he says that Aja and FCP indeed have conflicts in sending and receiving a voice at the same time, hence the loop. He suggested to directly hook the patching panel to the computer to make a bypass.

But as I don’t seem to receive any analog audio at all, he suggested to reinstall the driver. How do I go about that? As I am no Apple adept and have little experience so far, I’m afraid of making things worse.

    Regards,

    Brecht
