FCP won’t open
I’m using FCP 5.0.4 on a G5 Dual 2.3 GHz
When opening FCP (today) an error came on that my primary hard drive had gone off line. I hit ‘check again’ to no avail, then hit ‘reset scratch disk’ which listed my scratch disk as “macintosh HD – offline”. I hit “SET” for this drive and it then read “macintosh HD” (the ‘offline’ was dropped) making me think all was good but the FCP bootup continued a short way then aborted (no error). Now, everytime I try to open it drops off a short way into the bootup, still no error and now apparent way around.
Anyone seen this before? Any advice appreciated.

The corruption of a single file may be causing the crash.
Try to open the project with all the media off-line and reconnect by bunches, this way you may isolate the offending file.

Thanks Rafael but I’m afraid it’s the application that is failing to load (doesn’t even reach the point of loading the project). Can’t open other projects either.

Then try with DiskWarrior or another application to optimize your System.
Just a wrong “File Finder Info” may be causing all the mess.

Try Rafael’s solution, before you try disk warrior go into your projects folder and double click on each and every project opening up one at a time to see if that works.
Also your scratch should be separate from your boot up disk, if you don’t have another internal disk, get an external and make that your scratch, as this will avoid potential problems in the future.

Booted with Disk Warrior and rebuilt drive to no avail. FCP still fails to bootup.

I’ve tried numerous projects (all with the same result) and have booted from disk warrior and rebuilt drive, still unable to get FCP to bootup. Is there any way to change the scratch disk without opening FCP? An editable cache file?…

Trash preferences — that discards the stored link to your scratch disk.

Trashing preferences did fix this and I’m back up and running with scratch disk set to external drive.
