FCP will not open after 5.1.2 update

I’m still working on this one on my end.

I’ve removed all the plug-ins and all the Quicktime components and still am not having success. Maybe I am not removing them properly.

If I remove Quicktime components, do I need to do a system restart for the removal to take effect? Is the proper path for all the Quicktime components:

Macintosh HD > Library > Quicktime

Also, for all FCP plug-ins is the proper path:

Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro System Support > Plugins

The problem happened with me yesterday and I’ve yet to fix it. Can you guys who have this problem list any specifics about your systems?

Here’s what I have that may or may not be related:

– Blackmagic Design Decklink HD Plus w/ 5.7 drivers
– ATI Radeon 9600
– I have MetaSAN intalled and running
– Microsoft Office 2004
– Flip4Mac WMV
– Sorenson Video Pro Codecs

Also, I removed all the plugins and that didn’t help.

With FCP 5.1.2 it can now read FX Plugins which are FCP Studio universal wide. Go to Library > Application Support > ProApps > Internal Plug-ins

You’ll see some plug-ins in there, that’s where my Zaxwerks plug was that was messing up the works. Don’t trash anything in there, but you might want to try pulling the plugs out onto the desktop and then try to launch FCP. FCP does use these plugs, but there might be one, like my Zaxwerks, that’s gumming up the works.

If FCP launches, put the plugs back one by one until FCP does not launch.

I used a program called Pacifist to find and trash every single file that FCS installs. Then I reinstalled it and tried the update again. Works great now.

I have no idea what the cause of the problems were.
