I see that Adobe has created a shortcut set for FCP users to help smooth out the learning curve.

    I’d like some advice.

Is there any advantage in forcing myself to learn the default PP shortcuts, because there are similarities in keyboard shortcuts between Adobe aps?

When I went from Avid to FCP many years ago, I determined to learn the FCP shortcuts rather than try to emulate the Avid keyboard my fingers were used to, and I’m very glad I did. I think it helped me get into the heads of the programmers and their intention for workflow.

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
I’ll reconsider after the first upgrade.

If you plan to use after effects then yes there are similarities and it is worth learning the default keys.

The logic in them is mostly quite clear and easy to retain.

After two months of using Premiere alongside FCP I have added dozens of custom hotkeys, but in general have tried to keep Premiere’s default hotkeys where they are. After about a month, the Premiere hotkeys started to hold their own logic, and when I am cutting in FCP I sometimes find myself preferring the Premiere hotkeys. I’m glad I stuck with the Premiere hotkeys — kept me from pining for the FCP way of doing things….
